Ms. Richard continued in her role on EastEnders, as well as reprising an old role . . . |

Grace & Favour I |
. . . as the pert Miss Brahms in the sequel to AYBS? entitled Grace and Favour. Ms. Richard (who has aged wonderfully well over the intervening seven years since the final episode of the original series) re-donned the oft-times garish wardrobe of the junior ladies' sales assistant (including her trademark brooches). The first season of Grace and Favour actually aired in early 1992, but was entirely produced in 1991, hence its appearance in this room of the Gallery. |

The first image is of Bill Treacher and Wendy dressed as their EastEnders characters, Arthur and Pauline. The shot is clearly outdoors; possibly at a real garden or flower show. Of course Wendy tones down her jewelry when in costume -- but while the wedding band is a prop, the ring on her left little finger appears to be her own. The 2nd image is from the same shoot. The 3rd photo is a bit of fun by Wendy, Adam Woodyatt, Bill Treacher, and Nicola Stapleton. Curiously, the photo is from June of 1991, yet Stapleton's character of Mandy Salter did not start appearing in EastEnders until March of the following year. In any case, as one may see from all these photos, Pauline does smile! (And click here if you require even more proof.) This 4th image is from EastEnders, very near the end of the year. It appears to be from the scene when the character of Mark finally tells Arthur and Pauline he is HIV-positive. |

A shot from the set of EastEnders which appeared in Saturday in 2007. It is probably from early 1992, since Wendy's dress is the same that she wore during the show's 'Miss Queen Vic' contest, which aired in late-April of '92. |

Wendy with EastEnders co-star Peter Dean. Clearly, this is an off-stage publicity photo, which your webmeister estimates as possibly from early in the year. |

This delightful publicity shot of Wendy as Pauline Fowler appeared in Films in Review magazine in 1992. |

. . . And these two are after. The next from the last picture shows her fine blue eyes. |

Grace and Favour was not picked up for a third season, so in 1993, Ms. Richards concentrated on her tried and true role of Pauline Fowler, as well as a short cameo on a special revival of Dr Who. |

Dr Who |
Despite her character's reputation for overall frumpiness, it is safe to say that no one on EastEnders has ever worn the launderette workcoat quite so attractively. The bottom-most photo is a publicity pic from early December (though it was actually shot in October). The presence of the constables means this is likely the scene where Pauline is informed of the fatal auto accident involving her brother, Pete. |

These four images are posed publicity shots. I suspect the first photo here -- one of the handsomest of Pauline Fowler -- is from the same shoot that produced the image used on Wendy's publicity card from the early 1990s. The second pic was used in the BBC book EastEnders: The First Ten Years. Unfortunately, it was mirrored there to better fit the text flow; here, it is shown properly oriented. Pic #3 also shows Wendy (as Pauline) and Billy Boyle (as Danny Taurus) in a publicity shot for the Danny storyline. The final image is on the EE set, but looks like it was specially shot as a publicity piece. It includes Todd Carty, Bill Treacher, and Susan Tully, as well as Wendy, of course. |

Despite the fact these photos were used in
magazines as late as 1996, it seems likely that all are from the
same publicity photo shoot, circa 1993 or 1994. The first image
appeared in
Inside Soap, 1994; the second in TV Times in 1996; and
the third in Woman's Own, also in 1996. Note also the small pin Pauline wears in the 3rd photo. It's the symbol of the real-life Variety Club's Gold Heart children's charity, a sponsor of which Wendy was for many years. |

Another publicity photo, this one from July. A nice pic of Wendy along with some other iconic characters of the series. From left: Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins), Pauline, Lorraine Wicks (Jacqueline Leonard), and Carol Jackson (Lindsey Coulson). Yes, they are in jail. |
You Bet! |
The Mirror website identified this incorrectly as from a 1985 appearance on You Bet!; however, Wendy's hairstyle clearly pegs this photo as from about mid-1996, when in fact she likely did appear on the show. (An intriguing shot; I wonder what she was thinking.) |

An unknown magazine offered this publicity pic of Wendy for her 1997 visit to the game show You Bet. With her in the photo are the show's host Darren Day (left) and another guest, sportsman Teddy Sheringham (right). |

In these shots: as with the American version of the cooking show, the two teams are distinguished by vegetables; one is tomato (red apron) and the other is bell pepper (green apron). |
